Extending the 3D Reality Capture Workflow

After more than two years in the market, the Leica Geosystems 3D Reality Capture Solution continues to impress new and existing laser scanning users around the globe. The original solution (introduced in 2018) was a combination of the portable and automated Leica RTC360 3D laser scanner, Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 app and Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 post-processing office software. Since the original solution was introduced, it has expanded beyond the RTC360 and has seen major workflow improvements, such as support for the Leica BLK360 imaging laser scanner, the Leica BLK3D handheld imager and now the Leica ScanStation P-Series.

A core element of the reality capture solution is the Cyclone FIELD 360 mobile-device app (available for Android and iOS), designed to conduct on-site point cloud pre-registration. Based on market feedback, we actively make improvements to the app on a regular basis and each improvement offers new functionality to enhance and improve workflows for users.

What’s new?
The latest version of Cyclone FIELD 360 extends the 3D reality capture solution to include support for the survey-grade, Leica ScanStation P-Series terrestrial laser scanners so users can automatically capture, pre-register and examine 3D data, directly within the app. This means that the powerful Cyclone FIELD 360 app, with its intuitive user interface and remote scanner control, now serves all Leica Geosystems terrestrial laser scanners (BLK360, RTC360 and ScanStation P-Series) for in-field data acquisition and immediate 3D visualisation of capture data – One app for ALL terrestrial laser scanners.

Pre-register your scan data in the field
Extending the workflow to integrate the ScanStation P-Series provides new and existing users with the well-known benefits of automatic in-field point cloud visualisation to pre-register and document projects quickly and accurately. Once you are connected to the laser scanner and with the simple push of a button from the app, users can capture and download high-quality data and verify and inspect it with a few simple clicks, saving valuable time in the field and in the office.

The ScanStation P-Series laser scanners are not equipped with VIS technology, as in the RTC360, so Cyclone FIELD 360 has intelligent algorithms built in to allow you to register your scans together using the Pre-Align feature, one-by-one as they are completed. Within a matter of seconds, you can preview the data on your chosen mobile device and verify that all scans are correctly registered together, as well as sharing data at the push of a button via the new publishing feature - providing the ultimate quality control and assurance you need for complex surveying projects.

Annotate and check your data
For improved interpretation when completing the final registration in the office, Cyclone FIELD 360 allows on-site annotations such as tagging of measurements, videos, images, text or voice memos directly within the captured point cloud. All of this can be simply done by using a tablet or smartphone and then be transferred downstream from Cyclone REGISTER 360 to Leica Cyclone ENTERPRISE, JetStream, TruView and CloudWorx.

Powerful viewing tools allow checking the pre-registered data for completeness and correctness before leaving the field, providing users with confidence that they have left the site with the final data they need to accomplish a successful final registration of the same data in the office.

With the accuracy you trust from Leica Geosystems, Cyclone FIELD 360 now offers these versatile and high-speed laser scanners with a seamless in-field capture experience to take data from the field to finished deliverables as part of the complete field-to-finished workflow.

Cyclone FIELD 360 can be used on a range of iOS and Android mobile devices to connect and operate the scanners allowing users to apply this in-field workflow to all scanner models without an additional investment.
