(London, UK, 8 November 2017) – Leica Geosystems, industry leader in measurement technology, announces its BLK360 miniaturised 3D imaging laser scanner has been awarded ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ at both the London Construction Awards and the Building Awards.

The Building Awards, one of the UK’s longest running and most prestigious industry events, welcomed companies from across all aspects of building to have their achievements showcased as an example to the sector at an awards ceremony Nov. 7. With entries across 23 categories, the BLK360 was named ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ among those shortlisted based on its genuine industry changing innovation. The judges took into consideration sustainability, materials utilisation, ease of use, speed of construction and cost savings as well as how the innovation is set to address market needs. Also, at the London Construction Awards Oct. 25, recognising achievements, developments and innovation within London’s booming construction industry, the BLK360 was announced as the winner in the ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ category.

"We are honoured for the BLK360 to be recognised yet again with these two prestigious UK awards, and, as a team, we’re thrilled to see the BLK360 scanner adopted in the construction industry," said Hexagon Geosystems CTO Burkhard Boeckem. “Innovations such as the Leica BLK360 are democratising technology for all, and we look forward to continuing our work to bring laser scanning to professionals in a wide array of sectors.”

The BLK360 has already earned several other prestigious industry awards including the best ‘Digital, BIM & New technology’ in the Mondial du Bâtiment Innovation Awards, PRISM Award for Photonics, iF Design Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and the Geospatial World Innovation Award, and was also a CES Innovation Award nominee.

About the Leica BLK360

At the push of a single button, the Leica BLK360 captures 360º HDR spherical imagery and takes a 360,000-point per second laser scan. Getting measurements right the first time, the BLK360 features +-4mm accuracy at 10 metres and an overall 0.6 - 60 metre range. Within three minutes, the spherical image and laser scan is completed and ready to view in the Autodesk® ReCap™ Pro for mobile app, which runs on an iPad Pro. From there, users can take measurements, add markup and annotations or share onsite data with their colleagues back in the office.
