Using a laser scanner to capture 3D measurements at a collision can help to clear the scene much sooner and relieve the pressure on officers.

Police officers attending collisions are under huge pressure to reopen the road quickly: closure causes chaos and has knock-on effects for the economy. It’s often said that it costs £1 million for every hour that a single carriageway is closed.

And yet, where there have been catastrophic injuries or fatalities, it’s essential that officers don’t feel rushed. They need to collect their information as fully and accurately as possible.

West Mercia Police uses laser scanners to quickly and reliably capture 3D measurement data at collision scenes. Capturing up to 2 million points per second saves hours of work when compared to traditional manual methods, allowing roads to reopen much more quickly.
