Leica Geosystems UK DirectTour 2014

Leica Geosystems went back on the road in October 2014, on our DirectTour around the UK and Ireland. Starting in Dublin, Ireland on the 7th October, the three week tour took our direct sales team to 13 universities. We also used the DirectTour as an opportunity to share with customers our 50th year anniversary in the UK, highlighting many of our iconic projects over the past five decades.

The DirectTour was purposefully located at leading universities in order to increase student and customer awareness of Leica Geosystems - our services, products and solutions, to the surveying, civil engineering, construction and building industries. We have found that one of the biggest problems companies face is getting good young surveyors into our industry, so a networking lunch was provided to encourage students to meet potential future employers and to find out more about working in the industry.

All locations were well attended and customers were provided with a full morning of informative presentations and demonstrations, starting with, the Capture - Design - Build journey which included information on Leica Viva GNSS, Pegasus:Two and HDS. After a short coffee break, the Technology in Action demonstrations were given to a small group of customers, focusing on HDS, GNSS, MS50, iCON, TS15 and GIS. Feedback from a lot of customers was that the presentations and demonstrations were very well received, informative, gave the right sort of information at the right level.

After Ireland, the next stop was Scotland stopping off at Aberdeen University then onto Heriot-Watt University. The tour continued around the north of England, before dropping down to the south, covering Cambridge, Reading, Imperial College London, Portsmouth and finishing off at the University of Bristol.

A particularly well attended DirectTour was at the University of Ulster, Ireland, where a great success rate of students joined the day with over 30 students attending the networking lunch, who all showed great enthusiasm in the new technologies being demonstrated.

John Kerrigan, Sales Manager Ireland, commented "I am extremely proud of the Leica Geosystems team who once again have worked very hard to make the Ireland leg of the DirectTour 2014 a great success. We have had great feedback from professionals in the field and also from all the university students who attended. Holding these events at universities has proven to be a great way to encourage students to engage with the industry and exchange ideas with potential future employers.
All who attended showed great interest in all our new innovations we have to offer with deals being made on the day. We are very much looking forward to coming back in 2015".

Tim Badley, Country Manager UK, also commented on the success of the DirectTour: "In our 22nd year of roadshows in the UK and Ireland, the 2014 tour presented a 'Capture - Design - Build' theme and delivered exactly what our industry was waiting to see. Over 500 geospatial professionals enjoyed the 'journey' which took them from early methods of data capture, through to new GNSS technology and the latest machine control and stakeout workflows. "Engaging, absorbing and informative - perfect event to keep one step ahead" was the constant feedback from attendees. The rotating style of demonstrations really played to the strengths of the technical sales team. Without exception their communications were dynamic, authoritative and professional."

Leica Geosystems will be back on the road in 2015- watch this space for dates!
