(Paris, France, 21 September 2017) – Leica Geosystems, industry leader in measurement technology, announces its BLK360 miniaturised 3D imaging laser scanner has been recognised as the best “Digital, BIM & New technology” in the Mondial du Bâtiment Innovation Awards.

It was selected as the winner by a panel of judges who praised the device for how it’s going to dramatically impact the construction industry. "The Leica BLK360 is an imaging laser scanner that everyone can use, compatible with for lots of applications. This technology will be used not only for new construction but also for renovation and building maintenance which is very useful as professionals need information quickly,” explained Bertrand Delcambre, President of the Building Digital Transition Plan when announcing the winner.

"We are honoured and humbled for the BLK360 to be recognised with such a prestigious award as the Batimat award, especially with the focus on BIM," said Hexagon Geosystems CTO Burkhard Boeckem. "As the BLK360 continues to break boundaries and democratises laser scanning technology, the team and I are thrilled to see this project adopted not only in the geospatial industry but also in the construction industry and beyond."

About the Leica BLK360

Users simply place the lightweight BLK360 on a level surface or tripod and, with the push of a single button, it captures 360º HDR spherical imagery and takes a 360,000 point per second laser scan. Getting measurements right the first time, the BLK360 features +-4mm accuracy at 10 metres and an overall 0.6 - 60 metre range. Within three minutes, the spherical image and laser scan is completed and ready to view in the Autodesk® ReCap™ Pro for mobile app, which runs on an iPad Pro. From there, users can take measurements, add markup and annotations or share onsite data with their colleagues back in the office.

The BLK360 has already earned several other prestigious industry awards including the PRISM Award for Photonics, iF Design Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and the Geospatial World Innovation Award, and was also a CES Innovation Award nominee.
