Working smarter and more efficiently with automated monitoring solutions
Case study
One of the largest surveying consulting companies in Sweden, Teodoliten Mätteknik AB, carries out over 500 measurement assignments yearly in the construction and civil engineering industry. Their numerous projects include surveying and monitoring for sectors such as tunnelling, railways, bridges and tall structures. Initially focused on surveying, Teodoliten saw an opportunity for expansion and started to provide manual monitoring services. As demand increased, Teodoliten developed their knowledge and grew into automated monitoring using Leica Geosystems solutions.
Teodoliten started with construction site monitoring five years ago but has since seized opportunities for advancement by investing in technology from Leica Geosystems to provide customer-focused monitoring solutions. Martin Claesson, regional manager in Halland, has worked at Teodoliten for eight years and has been fundamental to developing business growth in monitoring.
“Before, we did a lot of manual monitoring which was quite time-consuming. As projects got bigger and our client portfolio grew, monitoring was required even more. We saw enormous potential in Leica Geosystems' automated monitoring solutions and utilised them to work smarter and more efficient, ” says Claesson.
Watch the video to learn how Teodoliten grew with monitoring and expanded their service portfolio adding automated monitoring by Leica Geosystems.
As a result, the company has grown considerably and now provides monitoring services on projects across industries and sectors all over Sweden. Expanding their product range with Leica Geosystems has enabled them to accommodate projects of different requirements and sizes. For surveying tasks and manual monitoring, the Teodoliten team utilises the Leica TS16 and Leica Nova TS60 total stations, which effectively perform on demanding projects even in harsh conditions. For automated monitoring, they rely on the Leica Nova TM60, a robust, precise and enduring monitoring total station.
“We have a great experience with Leica Geosystems’ solutions, we learned how to use and combine different instruments to achieve the best results and meet clients’ requirements. By adding automated monitoring to our services, we save a lot of time and, at the same time, we save our clients’ time. With automated monitoring, there is no need for frequent visits to a site. We simply trust the instruments and the data they provide us,” says Claesson.
Multiple ongoing projects now have manual and automated schemes in operation with several permanently installed TM60s on sites keeping digital watch for deformation.
In addition to their monitoring-specific instruments, Teodoliten utilises an extensive fleet of Leica instruments from digital levels and laser scanners to GNSS and total stations across diverse projects. To support continued growth and success, in 2022 they renewed their equipment line-up by investing in new Leica Geosystems’ surveying and monitoring instruments. To ensure this investment is also monitored and secure, each instrument includes the LOC8 (Theft Deterrence & Location Solution), which provides remote total station locating and tracking.
Equipped with this array of measurement technology, Teodoliten provides effective and efficient surveying and monitoring solutions to a diverse customer portfolio.
