Taking the heat

Chapter 3: Bringing the heat

Bringing the heat
A summer in India can see temperatures exceed 45º C. That’s hot enough to fry an egg or sauté a Vindaloo on the hood of your truck

Power Grid was attempting to measure the distance between two 25 millimetre cables that are 70 meters off the ground (that’s like trying to make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs). The S910 has a max operation temperature of 50°. With an IP54 rating, the DISTO could then take the heat and keep going.

The impact of the S910 in the field was immediate for Power Grid. The DISTO™ held its own. What used to take a full day to accomplish was now achieved in only one hour. The easy-to-use interface means Power Grid can send any field tech out to complete the task.

“Even a hot India summer was no match for the DISTO™ S910,” said Abhishek Pandey, Leica Geosystems senior business development manager. “From measuring power lines to electrical towers, Power Grid relies on the quality and innovation of Leica Geosystems DISTO™.”
