Constructing a drywall with Lino L4P1 & DISTO™ D2

Edin Osmanagic started his own business, founding Solid-Bau in 2012 dedicated to drywall construction and interior design. Since its establishment, he has engaged two additional drywall builders. The tasks in interior construction are diverse, such as prefabricated walls, suspended ceilings, linings, flooring systems and built-in fixtures.

At the time Osmanagic was completing his apprenticeship as a plasterer and drywall builder in 1998, a significant amount of work was done using measuring tape. Triangles had to be painstakingly calculated according to Pythagoras in the ratio of three, four and five. Two persons were fully occupied for four to five days preparing the elevation of a residential complex with 20 units.

Measuring and calculating areas and volumes has now become easier and more efficient. Using Leica DISTO™ D2 and Leica LINO L4P1, Osmanagic has reduced his time and cost savings to more than 50 per cent.

"Thanks to the multi-line laser LINO L4P1 and the laser distance metre DISTO™ D2, everything has become more efficient these days," said Osmanagic. "We now only need two days for two persons to do the same work."

Building a stud wall precisely and efficiently


Osmanagic worked with his two employees on a new building project comprising two large residential buildings in Lindau, Germany. Their task was to erect stud walls with a wall surface area of 1,200 square metres, 60 m2 of shaft walls and almost 100 steel frames for the apartment doors.

The desired distance to the wall was measured with the DISTO™ D2 and marked to start setting the wall. The cross line laser of the L4P1 was then exactly positioned over the reference mark to align the vertical laser line with millimetric accuracy. A chalk line was then used to mark the floor and ceiling. The frame sections were, subsequently, secured in place to fix the plasterboard and insulation.

"The L4P1 is accurate and has a lot of advantages. What I personally like the most is the fine adjustment wheel that has no clearance. When you correct the laser line to the left or right it acts immediately and flawlessly”, said Osmanagic with great enthusiasm.

The L4P1 is an all-in-one 180° multi-line laser layout tool designed for fast setups. The fine-tune knob allows users to adjust the line or cross point for perfect placement with laser lines that are highly visible even in bright daylight. Thanks to the lithium-ion storage battery, the L4P1 can be operated for up to 24 hours.

Osmanagic uses the DISTO™ D2 mostly for taking measurements. Measuring areas and running metres can be done in no time. Other features, such as the Pythagoras function, the stake out function, or the area/volume are just as easy to use. If the client wants additional fixtures that were not included in the plans, remeasuring can be made immediately to determine the amount of required material. In this way, it is possible to conduct initial negotiations on a verified basis.

During his years of experience Osmanagic has worked with several different lasers before he came across Leica Geosystems’ laser distance metres and line and point lasers. Today he is committed to the L4P1 because working with it is easier, efficient, accurate and faster. In the construction industry, price erosion has been extremely high in recent years, hence, efficiency tops the list of requirements for maintaining a competitive advantage.
