Improve efficiency with High-Definition Scanning

OutPut Precision is a rapidly growing company, specialising in 3D Data Capture, laser scanning (terrestrial), topographical survey, 2D CAD drawings, 3D Revit modelling, measured building survey, drone survey (UAV) and Matterport virtual tours. Founded by Tomasz Gerlich in 2017, their mission is to offer support to the Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector, both nationally and internationally. In September 2021, Output was contracted by Turmec, a world leader in recycling solutions, to complete a 3D scan, in local coordinate system, of a large industrial recycling plant in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Covering both the inside and outside of the facility, the timescales of the project were set for two days, with a single surveyor utilising two of the Leica RTC360 3D laser scanners, with RCS/RCP scan data being delivered.

Working in a busy environment

Recycling plants are a busy environment, often operating twenty-four hours a day. Due to this, there are always employees, and often pedestrians, on site. Thus, safety and efficiency are top priorities for plant operators. With this in mind, OutPut Precision were afforded only a two-day timeframe to completely scan both the interior and exterior of the plant.

Having used Leica Geosystem products for many years, OutPut invested in two Leica RTC360 3D laser scanners, allowing them to document and capture their environments in 3D, improving efficiency and productivity in the field and in the office through fast, simple-to-use, accurate, and portable hardware and software. Scanning over 2 million points a second, the RTC360 is the solution for professionals to manage project complexities with accurate and reliable 3D representations and discover the possibilities of any site. The highly portable, highly automated, intuitive solution allowed the surveyor to move around the site with greater ease, reducing the impact on productivity of the site during the scanning process.

With the latest update to the RTC360 firmware, OutPut were able to scan the entire site in a matter of hours.

The implementation of the RTC360 was seamless and efficient due to OutPut’s use of Leica products over the years. The Leica Support team was on hand to offer support to the surveyor throughout the set-up, scanning and transfer of the scan data. The High-Definition Scanning solution helped OutPut maintain a good relationship with their clients as they are able to populate high quality 3D Revit models and/or 2D AutoCAD drawings, all based on the scan data from RTC360.
