Leica BLK360 3D scanner recognised for outstanding innovation at Irish Construction Excellence Awards

World’s smallest, easiest to use 3D reality capture solution named best ‘Construction Product Innovation’ at the ICE Awards ceremony in Dublin

ICE Awards

(Dublin, Ireland, 5 April, 2018) Leica Geosystems, industry leader in measurement technology, announces its BLK360 miniaturised 3D imaging laser scanner has been recognised at the Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards for its product innovation and impact on the construction industry.

The ‘Construction Product Innovation’ category recognises excellence in the way a specific product is able to improve the construction process or deliverables whilst meeting and surpassing client’s expectations and needs.

“For the BLK360 to be recognised with this award is a great honour for us. This speaks volumes to the technology democratisation we aimed for when creating the imaging laser scanner,” said Geosystems CTO Burkhard Boeckem. “To achieve this in the construction industry shows us there is a greater need for laser scanning in non-traditional surveying industries, and we will continue to work to bring new technologies to a wide array of professions.”

Established in 1993, the Irish Construction Excellence Awards are the premier recognition of performance for the contracting sector in Ireland and provide an opportunity for the industry to highlight best performance across the full range of construction disciplines and project categories. With entries across 18 categories, including ‘Innovation in Construction’ and ‘BIM Excellence’, the BLK360 3D scanner was announced the winner among those shortlisted for ‘Construction Product Innovation’ at the awards ceremony hosted in Dublin March 23.

To date, the BLK360 has earned several prestigious industry awards in Europe as well as globally including the ‘2017 Product Innovation of the Year’ recognition at both the London Construction Awards and the Building Awards in the UK and the best ‘Digital, BIM & New Technology’ at the Mondial du Bâtiment Innovation Awards in France.

About the Leica BLK360

At the push of a single button, the Leica BLK360 captures 360º HDR spherical imagery and takes a 360,000-point per second laser scan. Getting measurements right the first time, the BLK360 features +-6mm accuracy at 10 metres and an overall 0.6 - 60 metre range. Within three minutes, the spherical image and laser scan is completed and ready to view in the Autodesk® ReCap™ Pro for mobile app, which runs on an iPad Pro. From there, users can take measurements, add markup and annotations or share onsite data with their colleagues back in the office. Once the BLK360 data is uploaded into Autodesk ReCap Pro desktop users can interact with a complete 3D model of their project and design on reality in CAD software programs like Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit.
