Leica iCON excavate systems now support SMP Parts AB tilt rotators

New technology increases excavator’s accuracy, performance

Leica Geosystem's machine control solutions now support tilt rotators created by SMP Parts AB

(Heerbrugg, Switzerland, 09 February 2017) – Leica Geosystems, industry leader in measurement technology, announced today its machine control solutions now support tilt rotators created by SMP Parts AB, manufacturer of high quality products for excavators and backhoe loaders.

Designed to increase the precision of the excavator, tilt rotators enable operators to complete their work more accurately, timely, and reduce the surveyors’ exposure to dangerous conditions near heavy machinery.

“The tilt rotator solution from SMP Parts brings cutting-edge technology to a new group of construction professionals,” says Johan Arnberg, president of the Leica Geosystems Machine Control Division. “Our customers worldwide will have access to high performance technology that improves productivity and increases efficiency. We are proud to work with SMP Parts and other Scandinavian manufacturers in this ever expanding excavator attachment industry.”

Precision guidance with the latest in excavator attachments
Tilt rotator attachments allow for a broader range of work an excavator can do, such as grading side slopes and ditches. The attachment enables the bucket to be rotated and then tilted, allowing the operator to start digging regardless of where the excavator body is in relation to the area he needs to dig.

"Now that Leica Geosystems’ GPS system and our tilt rotator system communicate with each other, users will see an increase in productivity and a decrease in time on site. The high signal resolution ensures the precision of the tilt rotator is reflected in the digging system," said Lars-Göran Stenberg, CEO at SMP Parts AB. "We are very proud to be working with Leica Geosystems, and we will continue our collaboration aiming to offer this solution for all control system configurations."
