Expert presentations

Along with the latest technology, there will also be forward-thinking presentations by subject matter experts at the event. Leica Geosystems customers and staff will present on an array of topics:

  • In-House or Outsourcing your 3D Technologies: Considerations 4 April, 2-3: 30 p.m. Longtime Leica Geosystems user Larry Kleinkemper, CTO of Lanmar Services, will join an expert panel to discuss the pros and cons of keeping laser scanning and other 3D practices in-house or outsourcing to external professionals. Kleinkemper is known as a leader in computer modeling and advanced technologies in architecture. He is a noted speaker on 3D modeling and scan to BIM in England, India and across the U.S.
  • Vision for 3D Technologies 5 April, 9:20 a.m.The inherit nature of technology is its continued evolution - from the invention of the wheel in pre-historic times to today’s mobile mapping on any type of vehicle. As we move from static to mobile, technology is becoming more versatile and accessible. In this presentation, Hexagon Geosystems CTO Burkhard Boeckem will take you through a journey of how 3D technology has made its way from large, exclusive, purpose-specific platforms to smaller, inclusive, all-encompassing pieces. Bringing about the democratisation of what was once thought of as only required by the highly educated professional, 3D technology today is moving from the pure professional expert arena to a must-have for anyone with imagination and desire to embrace new possibilities. Join this Vision for 3D Technologies and discover just how far we’ve come and how far we can still go.
  • Multi Sensor Approach to Integrating High Resolution Data Above and Below Water 5 April, 11 a.m.

    Pegasus

Pegasus_Version2Eric Barden, principal of geospatial services at Spicer Group, has been a Leica Geosystems user for several years. In his solo presentation, Barden will explain t how to properly execute a mobile mapping project using a multi sensor approach collecting data from multiple moving vehicles. Spicer Group was tasked with completing a design survey to support the replacement of a 550-foot span bascule bridge over the Saginaw River in Bay City, Michigan, USA. The client needed full 3D river bottom terrain data for 2.5 miles of the Saginaw River, along with full 3D survey data of the existing bascule bridge substructure, superstructure and approaches. Using the Leica Pegasus:Two Mobile LiDAR system, the firm completed all road scanning from a standard pickup truck. Then, mounting the mobile LiDAR system on an 18-foot center console boat, Spicer Group acquired precise LiDAR data of the complete bridge substructure. For complete high definition survey data of the area below the water surface, the team used multibeam sonar technology and collected high resolution bottom data below the water surface, including the areas around the substructure elements. Learn about the different components of successfully integrating data from multiple sensors to paint a high resolution 3D picture of the project area. Learn about the differences between collecting data from a moving marine vehicle and a moving land vehicle and the importance of being an expert in processing moving trajectories.
  • Bring your 3D Technology Challenges and Questions 5 April, 11 a.m.Leica Geosystems Customer and Advocate Chris Zmijewski, vice-president of Haag 3D Solutions, and Leica Geosystems Vice-President of Business Development Faheem Khan will serve on this advisory board panel to take on attendee’s most pressing issues about 3D laser scanning and other technology.

Leica Geosystems will also sponsor an evening networking event at the 8th Wonder Brewery 4 April, 6-8 p.m.
