Public safety organisations have always needed fast, accurate spatial data. Though for most of them, getting it has meant waiting weeks for a contractor or putting teams in dangerous places where nobody wants to spend extended amounts of time.

As a car, quad bike or boat mounted with the TRK300 moves through a scene, whether that’s an accident site or a flooded street, dual LiDAR scanners record up to 1.28 million points per second at ranges of up to 300 metres, while 120 megapixel imagery is captured at every position. Every building facade, road sign, curb and access route is recorded in three dimensions, geo-referenced and timestamped.

Back at the office, that data loads into software such as Leica TruView. Teams can take precise measurements, annotate the scene and run AI-assisted classification to isolate infrastructure from vegetation and automatically blur faces or number plates for GDPR compliance. The data can then be uploaded to the cloud for reporting and archiving.

Someone with a basic geomatics background could train you to operate the system in a few hours. As a result, public safety professionals can run surveys themselves as they please, without having to wait for a contractor to become available. Owning the hardware changes the economics of repeat capture, so as conditions change and routes need to be re-verified, organisations scan when they need to.

Road policing and preventive capture
The TRK300’s value in road policing is primarily preventative. By scanning routes before incidents occur, public safety teams build a baseline 3D record that becomes immediately useful when something goes wrong. The combined LiDAR and 120 MP imagery produces a complete visual record with date and timestamp, adding legal weight to the data as a verified record. This 3D evidence gives investigators and juries spatial context that 2D photographs cannot. And because a 3D record captures the full scene at a specific point in time, details that would be lost once the road is cleared are preserved permanently, available to revisit and examine long after the incident occurred. 

Infrastructure risk and road safety audits
For highway agencies and councils, the TRK300 makes full corridor surveys practical. For instance, a route from London to Edinburgh can be covered in a single deployment, producing a dataset that flags road-surface deterioration, damaged signage, and visibility issues along the entire journey.

One application is clearance analysis. Using standard vehicle dimensions, the software models whether a given route is safely passable for a truck, an emergency vehicle or a VIP motorcade by identifying obstacles such as low bridges, overhanging branches and tight corners before they cause incidents.

Urban mapping for emergency planning
Fire brigades and resilience teams increasingly depend on accurate, current 3D data for pre-incident planning. It’s critical to know the best access routes into buildings, understand the street-level environment ahead of an event or identify where a vehicle cannot safely go. For VIP security teams, the same logic applies: scanning a route before a high-profile visit produces a verified 3D record of access points, escape routes and positions of interest that teams can study and plan around before the day arrives. The TRK300 makes it practical to build and maintain operational digital twins of these sites, making emergency planning across multiple sites faster and more feasible.

Post-incident and disaster mapping
The TRK300’s IP67-rated hardware and rapid-deployment profile make it well-suited to harsh conditions and urgent timelines during disasters such as floods or major structural incidents. It can be on a boat mapping the extent of a flood or on a 4x4 documenting post-blast damage within hours of an incident. Volumetric measurements from the resulting point cloud support structural assessments and post-incident reporting.

Where TRK300 fits best
The TRK300 sits in the sweet spot between simplicity, performance, and scalability. For engineering-grade accuracy or national-scale mapping programmes, sister systems like the TRK Evo or TRK Neo are better fits. But if the requirement is fast, reliable, geo-referenced 3D data across a corridor or event route, the TRK300 is the right choice.
